Obituary

Peacefully on September 1, 2020 Abe Penner, aged 90 years passed away at Victoria General Hospital with his wife Ingrid holding his hand.

Abe leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 58 years Ingrid (nee Martens); children, Ralph (Coleen) and Mark; grandchildren, Travis and Kendra; brothers, George, Henry, Art and Ed. He was predeceased by his parents,Gerhard and Aganeta Penner, sister Tina and brother Alfred.

Abe was raised in Springstein, MB on the family farm. He met his wife Ingrid while living in Winnipeg and in 1967 they moved to Cartwright MB to pursue his love of farming with Ingrid’s parents. Abe loved farming and described these as the best years of his life.

Church was very important to him and he raised his family accordingly. He was active in the community and served as a delegate for Manitoba Pool Elevators for 17 years, as treasurer for Trinity Mennonite Fellowship and as president for Cartwright Hockey Club.

In 1993 they retired and returned to live in Winnipeg where they enjoyed camping, golfing, the symphony, Goldeyes games and many friends. They traveled internationally and spent a number of winters in Arizona. Abe loved watching his boys playing sports and in retirement rarely missed his grandkids games until health issues took travelling away from him.

Public service to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church. Private interment to follow at Springstein Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MCC or Canadian Food Grains Bank.

Our Sincere Condolences to you, Ingrid, and your family. When we think of Abe the first of many memories that comes up was when we joined you and Abe, for supper at Roxy's in Oak Bluff. Fun time...many laughs!
Take care.
