Obituary for Ada Gross (Lange)

Our beloved Mom and Oma passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 12th, at the age of 92 years.

Ada leaves her children Arthur Gross (Jan Ash); Angela Gross; Evelyn Gross (Helmut Behlke); Brigitte (Brian Dawson); Ralph Gross; and Eleanor-Audrey Gross (Ed Proceviat) and her grandchildren Kate Gross, Mark Lima, Andrea Lima, Elise Dawson (Kieran Valde) and Bennett Dawson. She is also survived by her siblings Eric and Helen Lange and Ursula and Dave Hitchcock and in-laws in Germany, Alice Petersen and Elfriede and Falk-Rainer Henze. Ada was predeceased by her husband Siegmund Gross in 2013.

Ada was born in Neudorf, Ukraine to Julius and Elsa Lange. There, she knew the deprivations of life under collectivism and war. The Lange family immigrated to Manitoba in 1950. In 1952, she married Siegmund and her life’s calling as “chief cook and bottle washer” began. They raised their six children in their lifelong home on Airlies. Ada was “Mom” and “Oma” to many children besides her own. She enjoyed her role as Food Director at Camp Nutimik. Ada gave every Wednesday for 22 years to the Mission Church Food Bank. She gladly cooked for many church events– the kitchen at Mission Church was her second home.

Ada was never afraid to put herself out there. She was a positive and loving person who looked for the good in everyone. Mom devoted most of her time in service to her family, her neighbours, and her church community. She was happiest when she was busy– looking after someone or organizing something.

Most of all, she was a wonderful mom, who left us with great memories of joy, laughter and food (Eat! Eat!). We will carry her love in our hearts forever.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 19 at 11:00 A.M. at Friends Funeral Service, with burial to follow at Brookside Cemetery.

Flowers gratefully declined. Instead, please feed your community, hug everyone, and be good to one another. Ada would appreciate it!
