Obituary for Adeline Derksen (Paslowski)

Adeline Derksen, 91, passed away on Sun Nov 26, 2023 at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, MB.

Born on Wed Apr 27, 1932, Adeline was the 7th of 8 children born to John and Eva Paslowski. Growing up in Pine Ridge, she moved to Winnipeg as a young lady and found employment at the prestigious Manitoba Club alongside her sister Emily. She enjoyed her time there and would often reminisce about the lavish club events.

Adeline married Martin (Marty) Derksen in Winnipeg and raised 6 children: Diane; Marlene; Lorna; Helen; Ron; and Murray. They jointly operated a successful home-based landscaping supply and trucking company (Marty’s Cartage). As a longtime member of Grey Street United Church, Adeline attended many of the church’s fund-raising events and held the position of secretary for several years (she had exemplary penmanship). In her spare time, she would never pass up on playing a round of golf and joined several bowling leagues over the years. Adeline eagerly looked forward to the discussions, camaraderie, and of course, the snacks, during Craft Nights.

Surviving Adeline are her children: Marlene (Neil), Helen (Wes), Ron, Murray (Jessica); son-in-law Allan (Alison); niece Gail; 10 grandchildren, Nick, Jill, Courtney (Jeff), Andrew (Amber), Brittney (Johnny), Rory (Christine), Ari (Julie), Loralee (Drew), Marty, Maya; 10 great-grandchildren; friends, Angie, Susan, Pam, Sheila and Elizabeth; in addition to many other relatives and friends.

Adeline was preceded by her husband Martin; daughters, Diane and Lorna; son-in-law Peter; parents John and Eva; and her siblings, Anna, Mary, Kay, Emily, Michael, John and Edward.

A Memorial Service for Adeline will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg MB. Officiant: Pastor Gerhard Friesen. Interment has already taken place.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your charity of choice.
