Obituary for Ann Schaefer

Anna Schaefer (nee Epp)
June 10, 1934 - June 16, 2022

It is with profound thankfulness for the life and love of Ann Schaefer, wife, mother and grandmother, that we announce her death. Ann was born in Winnipeg and grew up in St. Catharines, ON. She married Wilfried Schaefer in 1958 and they returned to Winnipeg to live and raise their three children. After many years working as a bank teller, at age 49 Ann decided to pursue her dream to become a nurse. She finished high school and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1986. Then followed ten fulfilling years in which she enjoyed caring for psychiatric patients at Grace Hospital.

Ann was a beautiful woman inside and out. Her creative spirit shone through in her art, her excellent taste in fashion and home decor, her passion for rocks and gems, and her Christmas displays and cookie baking. She and Wilf hosted many unforgettable parties with their dear friends. In their retirement, they enjoyed travelling the world. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 1997, Ann endured her declining health with remarkable grace and courage and was an inspiration to us all. We are so grateful for the wonderful care she received from the staff at Simkin Centre over the past eight years.

Ann is survived by her husband Wilf, her daughter Leilani (Carlos), sons Paul (Anna) and Carl, grandchildren Alec, Nicola (Adrian), Molly, Charlie, Christian and David, and her brother John Epp. She is predeceased by her parents Gerhard and Maria Epp, her sister Mary, her brothers George, Henry and David and their spouses.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Parkinson’s Canada.
