Obituary for Annemarie Ying (Holsten)

ANNEMARIE YING
(nee Holsten)
1951 – 2022

“Weeping may remain for a night,
But rejoicing comes in the morning.”

Unexpectedly but peacefully, on May 18, Anne passed away at home in the presence of her husband and son.

Anne will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 50 years, Andrew, son Stephen (Mahwash); mother Elly; brother Helmut (Kathy); sisters Betty Boyer (Roland) and Connie Paterson (John); special grandson Isaak; nephews Vaughn (Emily), Danny and Christopher, and nieces Amanda (Marshall) and Tara. Son, Jonathan, and father, Heinrich, predeceased Anne.

Anne was an adventurer, and therefore loved to travel. Since she was born in Germany, she loved visiting countries in Europe. As well, she had a special fondness for the Caribbean (especially Guyana, Cuba, Barbados, and Jamaica), Eswatini, Australia, Singapore, and Malaysia.

She had a passion for learning, choosing teaching as her profession. She loved to help those who struggled and found life challenging. Anne was rarely deterred and often successful in helping the younger ones, spending most of her career at the elementary levels in the River East Transcona School Division.

Anne was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as a young adult and learned to be content and thrived with her unique circumstances. She trusted her life to God, who gave her much strength and grace to be generous and loving to all. She helped in various churches with their Sunday School programs and volunteered willingly to welcome visitors to their place of worship. For small groups she was extravagantly hospitable and enjoyed the discussions where Scriptures were studied.

There will be a viewing at 10 A.M. with the funeral service starting at 11. This will all take place on Thursday, May 26 at The Warehouse of Riverwood Church, 270 Gordon Avenue, Winnipeg. Interment to follow in Sunnyside Cemetery.
