Obituary for Susan Huziy

ANNIE SUSAN HUZIY

It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Huziy on Tuesday morning March 8th, 2022 at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg at the age of 76. Dad was with her during her entire stay at Riverview and at her side until the very end. Susan is survived by her husband Stanley Huziy of 56 years. They were married on August 20, 1966 at Holy Redeemer Ukrainian Catholic Church in Roblin, Manitoba.

Susan will be deeply missed by her daughters Maryann Huziy Friesen (Mark Friesen and their children Zack and Sam), Stephanie Ocharuk (Brad Ocharuk and their children Sarah, Madeleine and Kale), sons Alan Huziy (his children Joshua, Noah and Colby) and Patrick Huziy (son Jeremiah). She also leaves behind her brother Frank Baranowski (Ewa), brother Mervin Baranowski (Renetta), brother David Baranowski (Sindy), sister-in-law Pauline Moscall (Don), sister-in-law Marlene Dewald (Robert) and an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Susan was born in Deepdale on December 15th, 1945. After graduation Susan moved from Roblin, Manitoba to Winnipeg where she lived married to Stanley for 56 years. In Winnipeg, Susan worked a bit as a secretary and later became a stay-at-home mom. Susan and Stanley were blessed with their four children and raised Maryann, Alan, Stephanie and Patrick in Winnipeg.

Life was busy and full with a big family. Family trips to Roblin to celebrate holidays were regular and church involvement was always a big part of Susan’s life.

Susan lived a full life connecting with friends, praying for people, and spending time with her family. She especially liked to go for car rides in the country. Close friends would visit and talk for hours, meet for lunch and or be invited for dinners in the early years to celebrate special occasions. Susan was hard working at home, always making homemade meals and looking after her family in the many ways a mom and a wife does. She also cared for people in the community, volunteering through the church in different ways over the years. Susan was always concerned for her family and looked out for everyone. She was a kind woman who had a generous heart and tried her very best to live life well.

She loved and was well-loved by all of her nine grandchildren. A little goofy and a lot of fun and full of love was how she was.

Susan had a deep faith in Christ that carried her and guided through the years up until her passing. Susan spent time in prayer daily and she knew her Bible well. Many verses were underlined and Susan especially loved the words of Isaiah and the Psalms.

Susan was strong and brave. The last few years were hard and Susan faced what came her way with strength and courage - her beautiful life will be treasured by her family.

Our family is grateful for many things. Our dad Stanley helped mom a lot these last 2 years making weekly trips to the Victoria Hospital and caring for her in their home honoring Susan’s wish to be at home as long as possible where she could be surrounded by those she loved. Susan was grateful for the care and medical assistance of Dr. Joshua and Dr. George during her most recent stay at Grace Hospital.

A big thanks to Dr. Daeninck, Dr Fatoye and especially Nurse Shawna Costillo at Cancer Care for the warmth, support and care the was given to Annie, as you knew her. The medical team’s encouraging words and gentle presence always provided hope which was important for Susan in enduring her health challenges and the ongoing concerns of a cancer diagnosis.

Our family is grateful to the staff at Riverview. Being at Riverview was a beautiful relief where Susan and our immediate family were all cared for kindly in a comfortable and lovely setting with all the supports that we could ever want for Susan – she received excellent care.

The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 11th at 10:30am at St. Anthony of Padua Church at 250 Burrin Avenue in Winnipeg, MB with Fr. Dominic Yuen officiating. A luncheon will follow
immediately afterwards in the church hall.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Baranosky, Frank Baranowski, Eric Laviolette, Joshua Huziy, Mark Friesen and Brad Ocharuk. A private interment will take place at the Pioneer Cemetery in Rembrandt Manitoba by Fr. Isadore Dzaidyk.

There are many good people in our life that showed much kindness, prayed for us and were a huge support. We are grateful for each and every call, text, meal and visit.

If you wish to, you are welcome to offer your kindness in the form of a donation to Riverview Health Center or the Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal.
