Obituary for Arnold Teichrieb
Arnold Teichrieb was born June 4, 1927, the second child born to
Franz and Susanna Teichrieb (Froese) in Crimea, Ukraine. He died peacefully the morning of November 16, 2020.
Arnold grew up very poor. In 1941, during World War II, they were exiled out of Tschoengrau by the Russians. When he was 15 years old, in February, 1943, Arnold repented of his sins and put his trust in Jesus. In August of that same year he was baptized upon confession of his faith.
In September, 1943, they fled to Poland. At the age of 17, Arnold was drafted into the German Army. He was captured by the Americans and sent to Tajikistan, which was then part of the Soviet Union. In 1948, he met Lilli Hornbacher, whose family had moved in across the street.
Arnold and Lilli were married July 14, 1949. Their first child, Nely, was born October 23, 1950. It saddened Arnold and Lilli greatly when she passed away of whooping cough at the age of 6 months. Their second child, Gerhard, was born on March 6, 1952, followed by Herbert on January 1, 1954; Walter on March 24, 1960 and their last child, also named Nely, on October 6, 1971.
In 1956 Arnold discovered through the Red Cross that his mother and siblings were alive and living in Canada. Arnold and his family applied to immigrate to Canada and were rejected three times. In August, 1969 they moved from Tajikistan to Moldova. After moving they decided to apply a fourth time and were finally accepted! On January 31, 1973, Arnold and Lilli and their four children arrived in Winnipeg. Arnold was reunited with his mother and siblings after being separated for 28 years!
Shortly after they immigrated to Canada, Lilli started suffering from dementia. Arnold looked after Lilli with great care until she was accepted to Donwood Manor Personal Care Home in November, 1998. This move was extremely difficult for Arnold. In September, 2000 he sold the family home on Chalmers Avenue and moved into the Donwood Elderly Persons Housing.
On June 13, 2020 Arnold received the tragic news that his oldest son Gerhard, who lived in Germany, had suddenly passed away at the age of 68. This was a shock to Arnold that he never fully recovered from.
Arnold loved the Lord faithfully until the end of his life. He was often amazed by how clearly the Lord had protected and led him throughout his life of 93 years. He was ready to go home to heaven and see his Saviour face-to-face.
