Obituary for Artur Boschmann

Artur Boschmann was born in Filadelfia Fernheim Paraguay on May 19th in 1936 to David and Tina Boschmann; a younger brother to Peter, Hans and Irma Regier and Viktor Boschmann, and older brother to David and Margita.

In 1953 he immigrated with his family to Brazil, and accepted Jesus as his Saviour and was baptized there. He immigrated to Winnipeg in 1960 with his brother Viktor. Two years later he met Ursula Kasdorf and they were married on October 26 1963. They had three children: Armin, Erich and Monica.

For 25 years Artur worked on the pairing machines at Canada Wire (later named Superior Cable and Alcatel). After retirement he continued cleaning offices with his wife.

Artur loved traveling, including many cross-continent driving trips with his young family, and visiting South America and Europe many times. He had a love of birds and built many wren-houses for many yards. He enjoyed passing drinks of yerba mate around in a circle of friends, and he’s also the reason that family retreats often included a slingshot competition.

Artur sang in several choirs, served as a deacon and helped with funerals for many years at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren church.

He was grateful for many years of good health. In 2009 he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but after surgery he became a rare long-term survivor. Other medical issues eventually arose requiring occasional hospital visits and for the last year and a half he resided at Actionmarguerite St Joseph’s Residence. We are grateful to the staff for their kind and compassionate care, and he was able to enjoy many visits from family and friends for which he was grateful.

He was admitted to Grace Hospital late on July 28th and passed away in the afternoon on July 29th 2022 with family at his bedside.

Artur is survived by his wife of almost 59 years Ursula, his children Armin (Janet) Boschmann, Erich (Kathy) Boschmann and Monica (Alfred) Frischbutter, grandchildren Matthew (Hannah) Frischbutter, Christyn Frischbutter, Cari (Sean) Wake, Johanna Boschmann, Davey Boschmann, Samuel Boschmann and great-grandson Peter Frischbutter. He is also survived by his sister Margita and brother David, and sisters-in-law Helen Regier and Lilly Boschmann, and their extended families.

He will be deeply missed.

Funeral service will be held Friday, August 5, 2022 at 10:30 a.m., North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road, Winnipeg with viewing prior. Interment at Glen Eden Cemetery.
The service will be livestreamed, and available at:
