Obituary for Bertha Dahl (Schlichting)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bertha Dahl. Bertha was born in Morden, Manitoba, the ninth of twelve children, to Martin and Elizabeth Schlichting. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Arlene (Robert Wrigley), Karen (Jim Doran, deceased 2016), Elizabeth (Uwe Hofmann, deceased 2008) and son Jonathan. She will also be missed by her siblings, Trudy Rempel, Anne Dyck and Adolph Schlichting. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 68 years, Alfred Dahl.
Bertha devoted her entire life to care giving. First and foremost, she looked after her family, was house-mother in the girl’s dormitories in several of the schools in which dad taught, and finally, provided private home-care.
Mom and Dad’s work travels took them to India, the Philippines and homes in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Mom enjoyed gardening, baking, quilt making, attending symphony concerts and sewing, (we always had the best Halloween costumes and graduation dresses!). She also enjoyed volunteering at the MCC Thrift Store. Mom had a lovely voice and could always be found in the soprano section of every church choir led by dad.
One of mom’s greatest gifts to us (her children) was instilling a love of reading.
Throughout her life and travel, mom’s belief and faith in God was unwavering. She will be missed.
Memorial service will be held Monday, March 27, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg.
