Obituary for Darrell Wayne Hall

Darrell Wayne Hall
Jan. 8/54 - Feb. 24/23

It is with profound sadness that we announce Darrell’s peaceful passing after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer on Feb. 24, 2023 at the age of 69 years.

Darrell is survived by his loving wife Faye, who cared so well for him in his final weeks. He will be deeply missed by his three sons, Nathan (Kirandeep), Steven (Manon) and Justin (Monica), and their mother Louise; his grandchildren, Aman, Maya, Carter, Alexcia, Annick, Marco, Miguel, Kaylee and Xander; Faye’s children, Thomas and Cherie (Chris); as well as his twin sister Darlene (Albert) and sister Linda.

Darrell was predeceased by his parents Alvin and Edna May (Stroud) Hall, his sister Maureen and her husband Neil Jackson, brother Ross, and brother Brian.

Darrell was born in Brandon but moved throughout rural Manitoba during his childhood. He graduated from MacGregor Collegiate in 1972. His father was both a social worker and a Pentecostal minister at Bethel Church in MacGregor for many years, and prior to that he pastored in several other churches. Darrell went to Red River Collegiate to pursue mechanics and worked hard to become a Master Volvo Technician. He took great pride in this achievement and was seen as one of the top mechanics in his field.

He married Louise and together they had 3 boys. The young family purchased his dad’s cottage at Manhattan Beach Camp. When Darrell took his holidays, they would go camping as a family and he bought a boat for his boys to enjoy the water.
After his divorce, he met and married widow Faye Kliewer in 2007, and they had a wonderful 15 years together. They loved going for rides in his beloved BMW convertible, travelling to beaches, going on trips with her sister June and husband Karl, and playing regular games of pool in their basement. Darrell was Faye’s biggest fan and loved to support her art. Darrell reminded Faye of her own dad, who also shared a love of cars. She is the mother of two children from her first marriage: daughter Cherie Shearer and son Thomas Kliewer. Faye is a professional artist and Administrative Assistant at Signpost Music for singer/songwriter Steve Bell of Winnipeg.

Darrell retired from Volvo Winnipeg of the Birchwood Group in the beginning of 2020, just in time for the pandemic. He never met a car, appliance or machine that he could not fix. He was known as the “go to guy” for anything that needed repair – he had the determination, focus and stubbornness to solve even the most complex problems. If he wasn’t found under a car, he could often be seen puttering around the yard looking for things to fix. Darrell was consistent and reliable – if you needed a hand, he would be there. Family, friends, neighbours all grew to appreciate his special talents when it came to fixing things. He knew the value of a dollar and never walked away from a good deal.

He dedicated his life to God at a young age and tried his best to follow Christian principles. This was evident in his service of others, and was a big way that Darrell showed his love of others. He especially loved his family, children and grandchildren. Darrell and Faye joined North Kildonan MB Church early in their marriage and enjoyed bringing grandchildren along with them.

His final weeks were difficult; however, he found such joy in seeing the numerous visitors who stopped by many he had not seen in some time. He received exceptional care and we want to extend our gratitude to Dr. Shawn Thomas, Dr. Sean Armstrong and the nurses at Seven Oaks General Hospital Peritoneal Dialysis Unit and CancerCare Manitoba.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at North Kildonan MB Church, 1315 Gateway Road, Winnipeg, with viewing prior to service. Interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Donations in memory of Darrell may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, World Gospel Explosion or Steve Bell/Incarnation Ministries.

The funeral service will be live-streamed. Details will be posted when available.
