Obituary for David Albert King

DAVID ALBERT KING
December 2, 1930 - January 22, 2023

Dad, eldest of five children born to Henry and Mary King was raised in Elmwood. He attended the Anna Gibson School and Lord Selkirk School. In addition to his siblings, Bob (Millie), Cliff (Glennis), Art (Gertie), Carol, their house was also home for numerous foster children. Two of them spent a major part of their early life with the family, Shirley (Wayne) and Louise (Dave).

Upon graduation he worked at various jobs and settled on a career in the insurance industry. He worked at New York Life, Merit Insurance, and eventually formed King Insurance Agency in 1970. The initial office was located in their home, serving their loyal clientele until relocating to premises on Henderson Highway. Retirement came in 1995 and winters were spent in Arizona for the next 20 years.

Dad had many interests/talents. He was a history buff extraordinaire, he had the gift of music, playing the organ and piano at church for more than seven decades. He and his brothers Bob and Cliff would go to nursing homes to share their love of music until Cliff grew too weak in the last few years, well into their 80s! Dad had an interest in cars that he shared first with his dad and later with his sons and grandchildren!

Dad is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Hazel; their sons, Ken (Sherry), Bruce (Liane), Grant (Karla); eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; many extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Cliff, and foster sister Shirley.

Dad had a vibrant lifelong walk with Jesus, his Saviour. He took us to church and demonstrated a life of service, loyalty and hard work that makes us proud and set an example for us to emulate.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Rowandale Baptist Church on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Kimball officiating. For family and friends unable to attend in person the service will be live-streamed. The link to join the service remotely will be on rowandale.ca homepage.

2 Timothy 4:7-8 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award me on that day, and not only to me , but also to all who have longed for His appearing.
