Elenore Unger (nee Buller) aged 86 of Winnipeg passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday,
May 28th, 2022.
Elenore was born on September 26th, 1935 to Cornelius & Elizabeth Buller in Wpg., MB.
In 1954 she married Jakob Unger the love of her life. Together they had six children, Richard (Jennifer), Robert (Sandra), Ronald (Terry), Marian (Barry), Kate (Bruce) & John.
Elenore and Jake both loved music and often there was some sort of music playing or being played or sung in the house.
After growing up taking piano lessons, Elenore began taking organ lessons in 1977. She then became the church organist for River East MB Church, where she played for many years. In addition to playing organ, Elenore also played bells in a church group, sang in the church choir and was one of the leaders in Pioneer girls.
Elenore and Jake were very involved in the church and would serve in any way that they could. Their lives were faith filled and they did their best to instill Christian values to us as children and shared their faith with others wherever they could.
Mom loved to play games, whether it was baseball, volleyball, or boardgames with her children and grandchildren. Mom enjoyed bicycling and cross-country skiing with dad as well. They were always physically active and went on many camping trips with the whole family and on their own after we all grew up, enjoying the great outdoors, hiking, swimming and more.
Elenore was also a very skilled cook and baker. Her black forest cake was the best. She loved to have friends and family for meals she prepared. She was also a very talented seamstress and knitter making clothes for us kids and grandkids, daughters, daughters-in-law. She was a very proud mom, grandma and great grandma. She loved having the children around her.
After we all grew up Elenore and Jake began to travel to Germany and Europe regularly. Many of their trips were mission based, and they also enjoyed leisure excursions travelling around the countryside exploring and enjoying many music opportunities all throughout their travels.
Their 1st trip was for their 25th wedding anniversary in 1979, which ignited many trips after that, including, a trip to Vienna for mom on her 50th birthday and her 65th birthday, their 50th wedding anniversary, Lithuania for 6 months to rebuild a Christian college, Dresden a few times to help in building a church building, as well as Bad Reichenhall for another church building. They found volunteering very fulfilling, rewarding and FUN. (Her words).
Elenore was predeceased by her husband Jake, son John, and grandson Joshua. She is survived by her remaining children, their spouses, 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, as well as her 4 brothers, their spouses and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at River East Church, 755 McLeod Ave, Winnipeg, with viewing prior to service. Reception to follow after service. Interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
