Elsie was born on September 28, 1917 in Tolstoi, MB to Christopher Schnell and Dora Schindel – the 4th of six children.
She married William Goetz in 1939 and they worked his family's homestead SW 8-1-5E, by the one-mile road, in Tolstoi, Manitoba, R.M. of Franklin, and raised four children, until they retired to Ridgeville in 1971.

Elsie was an extremely hard worker. On the farm she got up before sunrise and went to bed in the wee hours of the morning to be able to complete all the chores of cooking, cleaning, washing, sewing, canning, and farming plus raising a family. There were no modern conveniences back then, everything was done by the will of the spirit and hand.

She had many skills from being a gifted quilt maker to an amazing pool player, a pool shark at the Ridgeville Community Club. She loved watching baseball especially supporting the Ridgeville team, a regular mascot, and curling. She loved playing cards, dice, and cribbage at which she had a perfect 29 hand at the Emerson Personal Care Home. Her last game of cribbage was played on Good Friday, before Covid-19 took her. Sharp as a tack, you could not put anything over Elsie, she remembered everything. An amazing cook, family and friends will miss Elsie’s Ukrainian and German delicacies.

Elsie will be remembered for her work ethics, integrity, generous spirit, sense of humor, and strong will. She will be greatly missed by all.

Rest in peace sweet little lady.

Thank you to the Emerson Health Centre - Personal Care Home nurses and staff who took care of her.

We were so sorry to learn of your Mom's passing. What a life she lived with such a" ready for anything" attitude and a real zest for life. She lived through those tough times and kept a sense of humour and fun. no denying she will be missed. We watched the service online and thought it was ever so good. Keep safe everyone.

Our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family. We have many fond memories of Elsie. One that stands out in my memory is of the time she and Willie came to our place and Elsie taught me how to make perogies. In fact, although I haven't made a lot of them, I used her recipe not all that long ago. I also have great memories of her at the baseball games and have a lovely picture of her and Willie with the team. She will be missed by many. Hugs to all. Carol and Vernon Wilkinson
