Obituary for Eve Hildebrand

Eve Hildebrand (nee Froese)
May 30, 1942 – May 1, 2022

Precious Eve, we are so sad to part ways for now. But we rejoice that you have gone ahead to Glory to be with the Lord Jesus.

Eve was born to Gerhard and Sarah Froese and spent her young years on the farm in Rosefarm, Manitoba. It was a tightknit community centered around farming, church life, and school. She was the second youngest in a large family where nine siblings grew to adulthood. Her Mom took care of the home, Dad farmed and was a preacher, helping to establish the Rudnerweider church conference. Eve always had warm memories of her childhood and growing up days with her family, community and faith. She asked Jesus to be her personal Lord and Saviour at a young age and was baptized on confession of her faith.

After high school and 1 year of bible school, she started working in Winnipeg doing secretarial work. Then, work at a nursing home piqued her interest in a career in nursing. May 6, 1967, she married her sweetheart, Aaron Hildebrand. This was such an exciting time. They took turns going to school which included nursing training for Eve. She loved the courses and excelled at them. She worked at the Municipal hospitals for many years. A wonderful joy came into their life when their daughter, Jeri-Anne, was born.

Life was filled with marriage, parenting, working, church life, bible study, summer vacations, good food, maintaining a tidy house, keeping informed and gathering with family and friends.

Approaching the age of 50, and into her early 50s, she suffered tremendous pain and arthritis in her back. Her miracle cure was cod liver oil and prayer! Also, in the 1990’s she was diagnosed with a melanoma on her arm, which was successfully removed. We thank God that she lived many more healthy years!

After retiring from nursing, she continued to provide help, service and care to others by working in homecare, babysitting, and becoming “Auntie Eve” to a special family.

Eve’s heart expanded more and more as one, then a second, then a third grandchild were born. She loved them so much and they gave her such a sense of purpose and joy. She would generously help Jeri-Anne, Mel and their family on a regular and consistent basis for the years that followed. As a result, she had a special relationship with Garrett, Reid and Adria. She blessed them with love, laughter, joy and much care. During retirement many other trips across North America were enjoyed with her sweetheart of 55 years. Included in these were service trips with MCC and MDS to help in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and to San Antonio, Texas. Eve helped in the soup kitchen, restaurant, and with some construction duties. Staying informed of the news, doing crossword puzzles, and reading were all things she enjoyed.

Her diagnosis of cancer in 2020 was hard to hear, but she was not shaken. She was confident in her Lord’s plans for her. This was incredible to see. Radiation and surgery in 2021 kept the cancer at bay while we celebrated life with Eve…eating ice cream, having fancy cake, visiting special places, creating meaningful moments.

Eve’s stroke in February 2022 was her most difficult challenge. She persevered through eight weeks of recovery at St. Boniface and was able to return home for three weeks where Aaron cared for her. She peacefully passed away at Riverview on Sunday, May 1st with family by her side.

Eve leaves to mourn: her faithful, hand-holding husband, Aaron, her daughter Jeri-Anne (Mel), and grandchildren Garrett, Reid and Adria, her siblings Sara, Mary, Jake (Diane) and Anne, sister-in-law Helen, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents Gerhard and Sara Froese, her siblings Kay (Pete), John (Mary), George, Martha (Burton), sister-in-law Lena, brother in-law Pete, and brother-in-law Frank, as well as three siblings who died in childhood. Friends and church family will also grieve the loss of Eve.

Thank you to everyone who helped her through her illness. Friends, family, and church family brought food, flowers, hugs and love. The doctors, surgeon, nurses, and health care aides gave great care to Eve. We are so thankful.
