Obituary for Eva Marie Neufeld (Schmidt)
We are saddened to tell of the passing of Eva Marie Neufeld.
Eva was 84 years of age, living in Winnipeg, MB.
On the morning of Thursday, April 27, 2023 while getting ready to head out with her dear friend Erna Hamilton, Mom experienced a heart attack and passed away. We are very saddened not to been able to say good-bye but are very thankful Mom did not suffer. She had been recovering very well from her recent hip surgery and was starting to enjoy outings once again and seemed very content and was truly looking forward to a day out.
Born February 28, 1939 in the Altona hospital in rural Manitoba to parents Jacob and Anna Schmidt, mom was the oldest daughter and second oldest of seven children.
On August 8, 1964 mom married John H. Neufeld from Rhineland, SK. They were together for over 52 years. Mom and Dad loved to travel and took many trips to such places as Texas, Cancun, Puerta Vallarta, and Australia, on top of countless road trips.
Mom never enjoyed school, but she did enjoy good times with friends. She was proud of her prowess on the ping pong table, and her ability to beat even dad at the game. Mom loved her grandkids. She was always willing to have them around and underfoot. Mom never loved gardening, but she sure made the best apple pies – and if she knew you loved them, there was always a pie or three for your birthday. We will miss them. Mom loved hockey – the hardest part of her last hospital stay was missing the hockey season.
Mom’s faith was a big part of her life and she was always ready to offer a hand. Eva volunteered in Pioneer Girls, helped with the Food Service Ministry, made soup for Keenagers and enjoyed being part of the Piecemaker’s Quilting group.
Eva will be missed by her loving children, Valerie and Darren, Debbie and Kelley, and Karen; her grandchildren, Samara, Danae, Callen, Dina, Joshua, Dawson and Braeden; siblings, Anne Schmidt, Jacob (Marj) Schmidt and Sara Schmidt, sister-in-law Marie Schmidt, sister-in-law Debbie Schmidt; 11 nieces and nephews and their families. She also leaves behind a large circle of extended family and friends.
Eva was predeceased by her husband John Neufeld, her parents Jacob and Anna Schmidt; her brothers, Albert and Wilfred Schmidt, and her sister Leona Hiebert.
A funeral in remembrance of Eva’s life will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road, Winnipeg. It will be live streamed and available for viewing later at
