Obituary for Jake Reimer

Jake Reimer
June 12, 1931 - November 19, 2022

Dad was born in the RM of Ile des Chenes, Manitoba, on June 12, 1931 to Abram & Helena Reimer; the youngest of 9 siblings. He started school in Prairie Rose until his family moved to Twin Creek where he completed the 7th grade. They attended the Blumenort Church where he was baptized.

At 16 years of age he went to Mexico with his parents, brother John & sister Mary. They did not make it to the Mexican border in time to immigrate, so they went in with a visitor visa. Within 2 months, his father died of a heart attack after which his mother decided to go back to Manitoba and they settled in Blumenhof.

He married our mother, Minna Barkman, on September 19, 1954, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage. They lost two sons, both accidentally, Eldon at 2 years of age and Donald at 26 years. Accepting this loss was a difficult struggle for Dad.

We moved a number of times, mostly due to Dad’s poor eyesight. This brought them to the decision to raise their family on a farm and they purchased a farm north of Arborg. After 12 years on the farm, they moved to Steinbach and Dad worked as a laborer again until his back pain became too severe.

In 1992, after retiring, Dad & Mom built a house north of Arborg where they enjoyed 10 years of retirement. In 2003 Mom passed away after a 4-year battle with cancer. In 2005 Dad married Mary Kornelsen with whom he shared 11 years of marriage.

Dad treasured the reality of God’s presence, especially so in his last years, spending much time alone because his poor eyesight did not give him the freedom of driving.

We, his daughters and our families will miss his ready, “I love you’s!” when we called or visited him in his apartment… Louella & Peter Toews, Grace & Joe Reimer, Rosanna & Peter Loewen, Verna & George Wiebe, and Valerie & Milton Plett.

Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Morweena EMC, Arborg, MB, with viewing prior. Interment to follow at Morweena EMC Church Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed at https://livestream.com/morweenaemc/events/10689659
