It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Janet Ellen Alexander on January 28, 2021, of Winnipeg Manitoba, she was 70 years old. She was predeceased by her parents Marshall Summers and Kathleen Ellen (Dufreane) Alexander. She leaves to mourn her sister Judi Alexander and nephew Scott (Wendy, Adam, Emily, Marshall). Her great love was her pets Star, Sasha, Bubba and Spats who provided her with much affection through the years. Dad, mom and sister Judi all benefited from the love, care and concern Janet provided. The role of caregiver was the most important to her. Janet worked in various companies throughout the years, and loved her lunch dates with her IG Wealth Management friends. Janet will be sadly missed by her many friends at the Willow Centre, where she lived the final years of her life. Janet had a wonderful sense of humor and those who knew her well could always count on something funny from her to make you smile.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Shannon Cecotka from the Willow Centre for her care and concern over the last years of Janet’s life. A special thank you to the first responders for their care of Janet. In keeping with Janet’s wishes, a cremation has taken place along with private family celebration of her life.

In honor of her memory, shared stories and condolences for the family can be left here.

We will miss Janet greatly. She always had a quick come back and we could rely on her to keep us on our toes at NorWest Community Food Centre. If she happened to come visit us while food was being prepared for a community meal, she would often tell one of the chefs that she was looking forward to the lobster and steak we were inevitably about to serve her (we have never served either!) It became such a regular joke that instead of saying hello to her, we would just ask her how she liked her steak done and pretend like the lobster was being caught and would be on the way shortly so she could eat it for lunch. Her sense of humour and generosity will be missed by NorWest Community Food Centre staff. Our condolences to her sister Judi and her friends at Willow Centre.

I was sad to hear of Janet’s passing. I will always remember her for her sense of humour. Our group jokes “Smigel and Woody” to name a couple. Janet would always find a reason why I owed her a coffee. My condolences to her family. I am sure she will be missed at your family gatherings.

Janet you will be so very missed here at Willow Centre. I will forever miss your sense of humor. I will never forget on my birthday when you and my mom decorated my office door and neither one of you could blow up the balloons you had intended to stick to the door. So when I came into work there was banners, streamers and these tiny little balloons! You always had a quick comeback and a smile for everyone you met. My favorite proofreader! I am grateful that I had the opportunity to know you. We will meet again one day my friend.
