JOYCE MARY LUTZ (nee Westfall)
Peacefully on April 13, 2023, Joyce Lutz passed away with loved ones at her side.
She was predeceased by her husband Harvey; her parents, Albert and Katherine Westfall of Ashern; her parents-in-law, Adam and Emma Lutz of Winnipegosis; and her brothers, Ronald (Geraldine) and Harold (Fern).
Joyce is survived by her two children, Liana (Nancy), Brad (Jennifer); three grandchildren, Adam, Benjamin, and Calvin; and cousins, nephews, nieces and friends from the Interlake and Winnipegosis.
Mom was born in Winnipeg on June 29, 1940 and grew up on a farm near Camper, Manitoba. She was married on September 20, 1958 and moved with Dad to Winnipeg. They lived happily on Monck Avenue for a couple of years before moving to East Kildonan and starting a family.
Joyce loved sports. She golfed every Wednesday with the Kildonan ladies for decades. She loved watching her kids play sports when they were young - bowling, baseball, and hockey. She also enjoyed watching the Jets, Bombers and Blue Jays.
Mom was loved by her friends and family and was often described as the “nicest person I’ve ever met”. She was incredibly kind and thought the best of everyone. A song was written about Mom, wishing that she was the songwriter’s Mom instead. Mom had long wanted to travel to Hawaii. She made it and got home with only a day to spare before the beginning of COVID restrictions and just before her health prevented her from traveling.
Special thanks to Mom’s nurse, Val, who was lovely and accommodating to our family in Mom’s final hours and to Pastor Dan, who joined us in the hospital to share in communion one last time together.
We love you, Mom, you are already missed. We’ll see you soon.
There will be a service and lunch to share stories and memories on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg at 11:00 a.m.
The service will be livestreamed at https://fweb.tv/99994
