Obituary for Kaitlynne Marie Irene Mockford

Kaitlynne (Katie) Mockford passed away on December 29, 2023, at the age of 31, following a battle with cancer.

I would like to share a few details of my daughter’s life. She was born in Winnipeg, MB on August 27th, 1992, to Edwin and me (Lois). We were filled with joy of our baby girl. She was the pride and joy of her grandparents.

At age 4 she was diagnosed with Autism - this meant that there were many changes in our lives that needed to be made in order to help her live with Autism. She had to overcome many obstacles in order to live a normal life. She loved going to church, bowling, and karaoke. She loved her outings at Ikea, having Slurpees, and enjoyed seeing Ian as they were a couple for many years. She attended Trail Blazers Day programs where she made lots of friends; and also, was involved with New Directions. New Directions provided her with much needed support. She graduated from Grant Park High School in 2011.

She loved going to Virden to visit family, as well as visiting her Uncle Rollie and family in British Columbia. Things we shared were going shopping at Value Village, going to see a movie, and enjoying talking on the phone to her friends. She was devoted to her church and always worried about other people other than herself. I am proud to be her mom, and she will be missed terribly by me.

She gave love to all without it being returned, I will love you forever.

Survived by her mom and grandma, many aunts and uncles and cousins and Katie’s boyfriend Ian.

Many thanks to people’s Full Gospel Church. Special thanks to the staff at HSC for all the support she received.
Many thanks to New Directions for many years of supporting Kaitlynne.

Special thanks to Tony and Chris for their hours of supporting for me, and many thanks to Reverend Randy Leavittt and the Charleswood Care Centre staff for all their support and concern during this difficult time.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg, with viewing prior to service.
