Obituary for Karson Brock Snow

Karson Brock Snow, a beautiful and courageous little boy, passed away on May 11, 2023, at the tender age of 2 years and 3 months. He leaves behind a grieving family who will forever cherish his memory. Deeply missed by his loving dad, Matt, his devoted mom, Mindie, and his beloved twin brother, Jonathan. Karson's passing is mourned by Grandpa & Nana Morrow and family and Papa & Grandma Snow and family, whose lives he touched in profound ways.

Karson's journey began in Winnipeg, MB, at the HSC Women's Hospital, where he entered this world facing incredible odds. Born with the rare condition known as Pentalogy of Cantrell, Karson's survival at birth was uncertain. However, he defied expectations and embarked on a courageous battle. For 26 days, he fought alongside his twin brother in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Winnipeg, a testament to his strength and determination.

Seeking specialized care, Karson spent eight months in Edmonton, AB, undergoing cardiac surgery. The Stollery Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Stollery Pediatric Cardiology Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) became his extended family. The compassionate staff, dedicated doctors: Dr. Holinski, Dr.Jonker, Dr. Ernest, cherished nurse Kajsa, RT- Tara, and all staff that were a part of Karson’s journey, provided exceptional care, enveloping Karson with love and support.

After his time in Edmonton, Karson returned to the Pediatric Special Care Unit (PSCU) in Winnipeg, nearing the day he would finally come home. Circumstances changed when he was diagnosed with Hepatoblastoma (Liver Cancer). Despite undergoing surgery and enduring a round of chemotherapy, his young body faced complications from the treatment. An emergency bowel resection became necessary, and it was the vigilance of one of his beloved nurses, Leslie that brought this issue to light. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) became his sanctuary, where an incredible team of doctors, including Dr. Veroukis, Dr. Brule, Dr. Hancock, Dr. Burzynski and Dr. Jayas, along with the PICU residents, amazing nurses, tremendous Respiratory Therapists (Aleeta, Lynda & team), Surgical team (Dr. Shawyer, Cindy & team), support staff including Steph from Child Life, Karly from Social work, and Music Therapy (Cecilia & Lacey) all provided unwavering care during this challenging time.

Karson's spirit shone brightly throughout his arduous journey. He was a beacon of happiness, cherishing every moment with an infectious smile. His “spicy”, fierce, and loving attitude touched the lives of all who knew him. Despite his young age, Karson's impact was immeasurable.

The family acknowledges that there are additional healthcare professionals who played integral roles in Karson's care but the list is immensely long. They want to express their heartfelt thanks to each and every individual who contributed to Karson's well-being. Your tireless efforts, expertise, and genuine care provided comfort and strength during the most challenging times.

As we bid farewell to Karson, we take solace in knowing that he is finally home with Jesus, free from pain and suffering, watching over us all. We express heartfelt gratitude to everyone who prayed for our little warrior and showered Karson with love and support. Your kindness and compassion will forever be remembered.
