Obituary for Lourina "Laura" Tiel (Vanderhooft)

Unexpectedly, yet peacefully on April 14, 2023 Lourina Tiel passed away in Winnipeg at the age of 83 years.

Lourina is survived by her sons Allan Tiel (Debbie), Doug (Selina) Tiel, Glen (Colleen) Tiel and son in law Ron Vanheyst. She is also survived by her siblings, Hank Vanderhooft, Jake (Deanne) Vanderhooft and Ria (Ross) Golightly.

Lourina was born the eldest daughter of Pieter and Margaretha (deBruyne) Vanderhooft in Utrecht, Netherlands. She came to Canada with the family in 1956 at the age of 16.

She first began work as a nanny for a short time until she met John Tiel and were married June 9, 1961. They then moved to the Tiel family farm where John worked for his father.

After the farm John found himself working in Winnipeg at Weston Bakery. During that time they had 4 children, Frances, Allan, Douglas and Glen. The family grew to include 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Mom became a stay at home mother taking care of the children and took on various babysitting jobs. Mom and Dad took the children on many camping vacations and bigger trips to the Black hills and California.

As the children grew in age she found a part time job at Donwood Manor Nursing home as a Dietary aid. Mom loved to go for walks until her health took a turn and could no longer do so.

Mom was a woman of faith reading her Bible, praying and simply loving the Lord knowing her days on earth were not the end. She looked forward to that heavenly home that was promised to her.

On April 14, 2023 she was ushered into that home and resting place, seeing the Lord with newness and leaving behind the sorrows and pain she endured for so long.
