MARIE-LOUISE ELEANOR (DODIE) STUART (nee Skinner)
1947-2021.
Mom slipped away from us rather peacefully on a morning we will never forget. She leaves behind her husband Gordon of 49 years, her daughter Christine, son Michael (wife Nicole, and grand-daughters Faith and Myka), son David (grand-daughters Jordan and Abby) and daughter Laura. She also leaves behind her sister Barbara MacDonnell (Miles), Teresa Campbell (Dave) and Greg Skinner (Cathy) and their families.
Mom was the family quarterback, the bright light in the room and certainly the loudest one if we happen to be watching Blue Bomber football. She loved lighthouses, I think for what they represent, a safe beacon in the darkness. She was our lighthouse, helping to protect us in the sometimes-turbulent waters of life growing up. She was a devout Catholic and was frequently busy watching church services online and attending virtual bible study. We know that when she arrived in Heaven, she would have been welcomed by her parent’s Lyna and Peter Skinner; her sisters, Jeanette Skinner and Kathleen Fischer; and her parents in-law Albert and Ruby Stuart and brother in-law Art Hardy.
Mom was a bit of a card-shark at the multiple card tables we would have going on a Friday or Saturday night at the family cottage in a pre-covid world. She had a unique strategy (sluff-master), and everyone knew it, but she still managed to be successful. She was a bubbly and outgoing city girl who fell in love with a shy farmer boy. They were married in 1972 and started a family, 2 girls and 2 boys. The family moved from the Pilot Mound area to Winnipeg in the mid 80’s.
Mom greatly enjoyed her career, working in the stores department at Stony Mountain Penitentiary. She made life-long friends there, that continued well into retirement. She did have a few health struggles in the final years but took that all in stride with her contagious and enthusiastic personality.
There will be a celebration of life at a date and time to be determined once group gathering restrictions are more flexible.
Mom, we will all be OK, missing you terribly, but we will be OK. Until we meet again.
