Mary Zacharias (nee Neufeld), age 87, passed away March 15, 2021 at Bethania Personal Care Home in Winnipeg. She was born May 4, 1933 in the village of Hoffnungfled, Chihuahua, Mexico. She was the second youngest and survived 11 siblings. She is predeceased by her husband, David and her daughter Jackie.
Mary's life was devoted to improving the lives of others. Her servant heart spurred her to devote her gifts of cooking, baking, sewing and gardening to bless others: her parents and siblings, her husband and children, her friends and community. Mary's faith and her church community was a lifelong guide for her actions. Her life was a living example of the Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” She demonstrated her kindness and compassion through her talents of delicious meals, warm baked buns, fresh grown vegetables, hand sewn clothes, and mended pants.
Mary was happiest when she was working--that energized her and she never backed down from challenges, of which she had many. Mary's resilience and perseverance were unmatched. She is remembered by many for her gratitude to others and her shining smile.
Mary is survived by her three daughters; Jeannie (Ed) Thiessen, Joanie Zacharias, Janet (Budd) Bier, Paul McLeod (son-in-law), grandchildren, Robert and (Trish) Hunt, Chris and (Fatin) Hunt, Brittany Thiessen, Evan and (Brittany) Thiessen, Kelsey McLeod, great-grandchildren Jakub Rucinski, William Huntzman and Wells Thiessen.
A family graveside service was held in Manitou Cemetery on Saturday, March 20, 2021.
