Obituary for Melvin Eldon Taylor

Melvin Taylor, aged 87, died peacefully at the Concordia Hospital on March 28, 2023. He was born on May 22, 1935, in Dodsland, Saskatchewan to Clifford and Millicent Taylor. Dodsland had a special place in his heart and, in his final days, he reminisced about returning to work the farmland he loved. He was the last surviving sibling in a family of five.

Mel married Wilma Toews on December 21, 1957 and they enjoyed 64 years together until Wilma’s passing in 2021. Together they travelled, gardened, ballroom danced and entertained friends and family. It gave Dad great satisfaction to tackle the renovations and gardening projects that Mom dreamed up.

Mel worked for the Canadian National Railway for 35 years and made many good friendships there. Dad served in the church and various para-church organizations—which included decades of work with young people—teen drop-in at Elim Chapel, Christian Service Brigade, Red Rock Bible Camp and Living Bible Explorers. He had an abiding faith in Christ that motivated his service and it was all informed by his deep knowledge of the Bible and his study of spiritual things.

He is survived also by two sons, David (Karen) Taylor and Paul (Elaine) Taylor, his granddaughter, Naomi Taylor, and grandson Graham (Angela) Taylor. He loved to hear about and see his great-grandchildren, Aria, Haven, Hawk, Emmy and Rynn. Mel is also survived by many nieces and nephews and friends Arlene, Cecil and Devon Squires.

The memorial will be held at 11:00 AM. on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers you may donate to Red Rock Bible Camp or The Living Bible Explorers.
