Obituary for Nellie Schlichting

NELLIE SCHLICHTING
Nellie (Wiebe) Schlichting born February 2, 1928, passed suddenly on August 23, 2022 after a full and abundant life. Mom had a wonderful sense of humour, boundless creative talents and could work circles around ten men. As the oldest of three girls, she assumed the role of hired hand and was indispensable on the farm near Starbuck where she was raised. In 1952, she married Henry Schlichting and they started their own homestead near Sanford. They raised eight children, Vernon (Jane), Loreen (Ron), Linda (Reginald), Donald, Ernest (Linda), Gary (Terri), Alden (Angela) and Marlies (Paul). They were further blessed with fifteen grandchildren and many great-grand children. Mom was predeceased by her husband, son-in-law and granddaughter.

Mom was not one for public attention, rather her strengths were in keeping everyone on course and on time. Her house was meticulously clean, her yard a showplace and her gifts with sewing, needlepoint, crocheting, and knitting were legendary. Observing her boundless energy, her pride in tasks and doing so without complaint were lessons to us all in developing our own work ethics and priorities.

Mom has earned her well-deserved rest and can finally be at peace. Although she will be greatly missed her influence in our lives will live on. We give thanks to the caring staff at Lindenwood Manor for allowing mom to retain her independence these past few years.

A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, August 29th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Springstein Mennonite Church.
