Obituary

OLGA REIMER

Peacefully with her children at her side, Olga Reimer went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 6, 2021. Olga was born on September 23, 1928 to Katherine and Jacob Krueger in Orenburg Siberia. The family moved to the Molotshna in Ukraine when Olga was 7 years old. She had 5 years of school before the war broke out. Olga fled with her family to Germany in 1943 and when captured, ministered to others in the prison camps. MCC assisted her family to leave Germany and immigrate to Paraguay in 1947. Here she met husband Gerhard Reimer and they were married in July 1949. They immigrated to Canada in 1955. Olga appreciated the opportunity and freedom to raise her family in Winnipeg. She loved being surrounded by her family, telling stories about her childhood, baking and cooking for them and caring for grandchildren.

The church meant a lot to Olga. She faithfully attended North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church and served on the Ladies Fellowship Committee and as a deacon with her husband. Her positive and hopeful perspective will be missed by everyone she came in contact with. She was kind and grateful and always had an uplifting comment that left everyone feeling valued and significant. In her later years at Donwood, in spite of dementia, she kept her kind and content spirit and loved visiting with the other residents, spreading her gentle joy in stories and greetings.

Olga was predeceased by her parents, her husband Gerhard, her son Harry, her daughter Katie and grandson Corey.

Olga will be lovingly remembered by her children Willie, his wife Ingrid, Diane, daughter-in-law Linda, son-in-law Harold, his wife Jocelyn, Jake, his wife Pat; Margaret; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Olga is also survived by one brother Peter, his wife Katie, brother-in-law Peter, his wife Lydia. and sister-in-law, Margaret.

My sincere condolences to the family on the loss of your mother. It has been years since I last visited with your parents, 2006 to be exact when they sat with us at my father's funeral. My dad, Jake Letkeman, was a first cousin to your mom. Coming to Canada as an orphan, my dad treasured his 3 Letkeman first-cousins in the province. Your parents faithfully visited dad when he was in the nursing home and I was often there at the same time. I appreciated your dad's sense of humor and your mom's gentle ways. They were so uplifting and encouraging and Dad so appreciated their visits. May you find peace and comfort knowing what a difference your parents made in the lives of others.

I have known Olga and Gerhard (George) Reimer all my life long. My parents are Heinrich and Justa Pauls nee Friesen and we are related from my dad's side of the family. We were invited to the Reimers often for Saturday or Sunday Faspa and they were at our house often. My Mom and Mrs Reimer attended the Missions Verein.. The Ladies missions group. I got to know Gerhard and Olga when we drove out to Clarklleigh once a month to hold Sunday School and a service with Anne Warkentin teaching Sunday school and I played accordian for singing.. we had a good drive and gave us time to visit. I also worked in the paint deot at Palliser furniture with Gerhard/George as foreman. Anytime I would run into the Reimers we would catch up with each other. Wishing the family God's comfort and peace at this time. Deepest sympathy from Reinhold Heinrich Pauls.
