Obituary for Peter Verbeek

Peter Verbeek, at the age of 87, went to his eternal home on February 26, 2023.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 63 years, Corrie Verbeek. Left also to cherish his memory are his children Monica (Gus) de Rooy, Gary (Trixie) Verbeek, Daryl (Debb) Verbeek, Angela (Scott) Visser, his 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Peter was born on March 21, 1935 in the Netherlands. He immigrated with his parents and siblings to Winnipeg, MB in 1954. There he met and married the love of his life, Cornelia Moerman on April 3, 1959.

Peter was an accomplished and skilled tool and die maker, learning his trade in Holland and bringing it to Winnipeg where he invested the majority of his career working for Bristol Aerospace.

He was a man of strong faith, serving his family, church and community throughout his life. Peter was committed to helping those in need, locally and globally. He volunteered at the Union Gospel Mission for many years and supported organizations such as World Vision, Seeds of Hope, the Bible League, Wycliffe Bible translators, and Campaign Life Coalition.

Peter was an avid fisherman. He knew the best spots to go, the right bait to take and how to smoke a goldeye to perfection. His other hobbies included making marble boards for friends and family, beautiful wood art and carvings, watching wrestling, soccer and nature programs and most notably sitting in the sun or on the beach soaking in all rays!

Funeral services will be held on March 3, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Providence Reformed Church (2615 Henderson Hwy). On line streaming will be available at https://providencereformed.net. He will be laid to rest privately by immediate family at Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Donwood personal care home. With his declining health, they provided compassionate care for the last 3 months of his life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Peter Verbeek to World Vision International.
