Obituary for Reinhold Peemoeller

REINHOLD PEEMOELLER
January 18, 1937 – July 29, 2022

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Reinhold Peemoeller, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, generous and kind friend.

Reinhold passed away peacefully on July 29, 2022, at the age of 85. Reinhold was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, and one niece.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Helmi; his children, Heidi (Doug), Debbie (Ed), Cindy (Ken), Lori (Trevor); his grandchildren, Brendan, Lauren, Bradley, Shayla, Kaitlyn, Colin, Aiden, and Kane. He is survived by his brothers, Ulrich, Alfred, Hartwig and his sister Marianne.

Reinhold was born in Hamburg, Germany, on January 18, 1937. He followed his passion of tinkering by becoming a machinist millwright. He finished his apprenticeship in the Hamburg harbour, which is where his passion began for the love of water and everything it entailed.

He immigrated to Canada by ship in 1956, at the age of 18. He settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

In 1961, Reinhold met Helmi Dueck through his friend and co-worker, Peter Rempel, which happened to be Helmi’s brother-in-law. They fell in love and were lifelong partners of 60 years. In 1976, Reinhold built what has been their home for the last 46 years. During their 60 years of marriage, they built a life together with their 4 daughters.

Reinhold and Helmi owned a beachfront property at Sandy Bay on Lake Winnipeg for over 60 years. They loved to spend time there in the summer months. Reinhold loved going to the cottage. He absolutely loved to be busy, cutting down trees, adding onto the cottage, boating, sailing, teaching his daughters how to water ski, going for bike rides with his grandchildren, watching the sun set and listening to the waves, and taking in all the beautiful surroundings of nature.

He loved photography and video taping. His passion for flowers and scenery was shown in his picture taking. Reinhold also loved to travel. Throughout the years, he has travelled to many locations and has taken beautiful pictures to capture the most wonderful memories. One of his passions while traveling was hiking, and particularly in Europe. Wherever Reinhold walked to, he was always ahead of everyone else. We always had a hard time catching up to him.

Another passion of Reinholds was his love for music. He spent many an hour listening to all kinds of music. In particular he loved Nana Mouskouri and his favorite saying was “Mitt Musik geht alles besser” (everything is better with music).

Reinhold was also a passionate and talented craftsman who could be found in his workshop listening to music, working on all sorts of different projects and inventions. One of his last projects, at the age of 84 he built his wife Helmi a “She Shed” complete with a front porch.

Anyone who knew Reinhold knew he was the most loving husband and father a family could ask for. Reinhold was a gentle, kind, caring, smart, and funny man with such a loving heart. We will miss him with all of our hearts. Reinhold never liked to say goodbye, he would always say, “Tschuess” (meaning “see you later”). It is with our deepest love that we say, “Tschuess, until we meet again”.

Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu, please consider a donation in Reinhold’s memory to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or Mennonite Central Committee.

A heartfelt thank you to the staff on the Medical/Surgery ward, at Selkirk Hospital for their compassionate, loving care of Reinhold in his final days.

Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2022, at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg. The family would appreciate it if masks would be worn. A casual luncheon will follow and interment followed at Glen Eden Cemetery.
