Obituary for Ruth Elizabeth Heinrichs

Ruth Elizabeth Heinrichs (Zacharias)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our loving Mom on February 27, 2021 at the age of 90.
She was predeceased in 1989 by her husband John. She is survived by her brother Ed Zacharias (Mary), children Vern, Lorne (Karen), Dwayne (Linda) and Lois (Steve), 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Mom was the daughter of Johann and Marie (Dueck) Zacharias. Mom was the youngest of 5 sisters and 3 brothers. Her dad passed away when she was only 5 years old. Mom met her husband at choir practice in Rosenfeld. Dad called her his Rose from Rosenfeld. They were married in 1951 then moved to Winnipeg where they raised 3 sons and 1 daughter. Mom did some babysitting and needle work until we were older, then she worked in the restaurant in Eatons. In 1976 Mom and Dad took on an adventure together; they bought Granny's Kitchen Bakery and Coffee Shop. They made a great team with dad as baker and mom as cook/cake decorator.

Mom conquered many health issues, thanks be to God, from needing open heart surgery in 1954 at the age of 23 and then again in 1990 she needed a valve replacement. She survived a heart attack in 2008 and meningitis in 2017. In between there was the Spherocytosis and multiple bouts of pneumonias. Mom was a survivor!!

Mom was very active from playing tennis and curling to learning to golf in her 60's. She was also an avid card player, pool shark and shuffleboard player. She did some volunteer work with SOOP and traveled to the east coast. Mom was an active member of Bethel Mennonite Church for over 60 years and a long-time resident of Bethel Place.

Many thanks to Homecare and Victoria General Hospital for taking such good care of Mom.

Family was everything to Mom. Mom showed her family great deep love and taught us to love. Mom was strong, independent, loving , supportive and faithful.

We love you more!!!!

Vern, Lorne and Dwayne would like to thank their sister Lois for all the love and care and many hours she had given our mom over the last year. Lois' devotion to mom was daily and mom would not have been able to remain in her apartment if it wasn't for her.... Thank you Lois.
