On Sunday, May 15, 2022, Sofia died at home peacefully, surrounded by her family.

Sofia was born on September 19, 1925, in Dubriwka (Sanok), Poland. Sofia and her husband, Wolodymyr, arrived in Canada as refugees in 1948 and settled in Winnipeg. Sofia is survived by her son Andrew (Anne); grandchildren, Vera (Kevin), Michael (Kristen), Nina (Cedar), and Roma (Brian), and great-grandsons, Julian and Mateyo; her son Oleh (Roksolana); her daughter Maria (Cal) and grandchildren, Mark and Natalie; her daughter Alexandra (Paul) and grandchildren, Andrea, Maria, and Sofia; and many relatives with whom she nurtured deep relationships in Ukraine, Poland, and the United States. Sofia was predeceased by her husband, Wolodymyr, daughter Wira, granddaughter Nadia, brother Julian and sister Stanislava.

Our mother loved God, her church, and her family. She gave us all the gift of faith and provided unconditional love. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” 2 Timothy 4:7.

The Parastas service will be sung on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Volodymyr and Ol’ha Metropolitan Cathedral, 115 McGregor Street, Winnipeg with Rev. Fr. Ihor Shved officiating. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery.

Flowers are gratefully declined. In Sofia’s memory, donations can be made to the Metropolitan Cathedral account for humanitarian aid to Ukraine and displaced Ukrainians in Winnipeg.
